They do this in the bay area all the time but, not just for indies or limited run movies. Usually they are two or three weeks before their release dates.

I thought the Tomb Raider movies were sometimes decent, sometimes clumsy, but the National Treasure movies did a better job of translating Tomb Raider style action/puzzle solving into screenplays.
