It's actually pretty interesting (and yes some of us get to use all the Latin we've taken) and a little more intellectually involved, at least if you are trying to figure out what exactly is being said wink

Anyways there is a Church approved Latin Mass, and a chapel at my old Alma Mater conducts one every day - I still swing by if I'm in the area just to participate.
mifpo:
The advantage of the Mass in Latin is that it's the same everywhere.
When you're in a country where you don't understand the language, you can listen to a Mass in Latin and understand it.

That was my point too, in case that didnt get across.
BigDamHero seems to like the church/medieval latin, and I find that unusual.

i've been studying latin for two years now and, to throw in my two cents, i would go with opportunitas est omnia. "timeliness is everything"
i don't know where panton came from, but it wasn't in any of my texts or dictionaries....

Damn. Two and a half years of latin, and winning all kinds of awards for it, and now I remember nothing. Wish I could help.

Wiki has a list of links at the bottom that might help. They'll take some work though.

Good luck!

Shouldn't a translation changes the names as well?
In Latin, Jupiter rapes Aquarius....
I think the names sound better in Greek myself, but in every translation I've ever seen of a greek story into Latin the names have been changed to their Roman form...

Knuckle ink help.

I have

That on my right hand. It means 'Life' in Latin. So it would only make sense to get "Mors" ('death' in Latin) on my left.

But I've been thinking... If I want opposites (which life and death are of each other.)

I could get "Daeth" (I don't know …

I agree, I agree very much. I really want

'Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici'

("By the power of Truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe")

Not sure where though. I was thinking along my thumb/wrist/arm of my left hand.

Have I really conquered the universe? Hell no, but I plan to conquer mine.

Latin. I'm taking Latin as my second language for my degree.

The most common reaction: "why?"
My most common response: "''Cause Latin is cool."

Remember, kiddies: Latin. Is. Cool.
dear god,

thank you for blessing my life with latin loverboys. especially gay latin loverboys. most especially for this certain gay latin loverboy that talked my boy derek into spending new years eve in san francisco. i knew getting dragged to church over the weekend would pay off somehow. except that i didn't pray for charming latin loverboys. i prayed that i could just make...

I'd like to find out how many people that live in "Latin" America or who are called Latinos, actually speak latin. Last I heard they speak Spanish. and I know Spanish is Latin based but so are Italian and French so why arent they called Latinos also?
Hi folks

Today's exciting news from wonderful world of me, myself and I, is that I have decided to relearn Latin. A long time ago I learned a bit of Latin (ok, I did a GCSE in Latin) but I have since largely forgotten what little I had learned. However, I have purchased a book and I have even begun working through the aforementioned book....
