I was on dialysis for only a year and a half- ESRD secondary to systemic lupus. My mother donated a kidney for me. But I immediately developed lupus in the allograft as well. I'm now seven years out, and my creatinine is stabilized, so, all things considered, I'm doing well.

And let me tell you- the things I learned from being a patient (and coming from a medical family) helped me out a lot when I was in nursing school.
