Read "Смотрящая вслед" by Julia Ostapienko. I never before met such a nice idea. She took a very good old SF book - "Hard to be a God" written by the Strugatzki brothers and wrote a short story about an, well, not so known character from that book giving her an own story, own goals and a good background. I don't know if that short story is availible in English but people from Russia or Ukraine who know the Strugatzki book should read it, veeery nice. I think Julia is from Lwiw.
