Suicide City Strikes Again
6.16.05: The Sandbar, Jersey City
.. For those of you who have given up on creativity, I am sad to say that you are missing out on something that can only be described as pure. Suicide City continues to grow in the elements of maturity, diversity and the ability to stay strong with any obstacle in their way.
.. Tension, Stress and irritation lingered in the air as if nothing could go right at the Sandbar. To anyone without a clue for what it takes to get a show going .. may only have seen this as normal. Although, even with Murphys Law riding shotgun, good things were defiantly in the pot brewing to the surface.
.. Observing the stage from the moment Suicide City took charge was as if the world around shifted. Tension was only a distant memory as well as stress and irritation. If you blinked in this moment you might have missed it. From the first note you knew that Suicide City was ready and prepared to have a good show .. for themselves and everyone who took the trip to see them play.
.. The bottom line is that unavoidable distractions may have caused a problem for fans under the age of 21 and unfortunately the tailbone of a Sandbar employee. Even still, with a few bumps in the road, Suicide City grabbed hold of the sledgehammer to pound down those imperfections into chop meat.
.. In every moment of every waking day the world needs a heartbeat, a city needs a loud pounding thunderous pulse and Dan Lamagna delivers. I have to say I do enjoy just the sound of drums as its on entity, therefore I tend to be a bit critical and judgmental on those I consider being great or even good for that matter. Dan breaks all prior discriminations that good drummers are hard to find; If this were true than Suicide City would have never found Dan or vice versa. He is defiantly a great musician and a magnificent drummer. Never cocky but confidant as hell while he pounds away leaving you wanting more.
.. The stage presence displayed was incredible and at times down right savage. Karl as always maintained to grab your attention if only to jump into it while piercing your brain with his incredible vocal abilities. Complete with back flips, stage dives, believable convolutions and pure insanity; Karl Bernholtz is in fact a mad scientist with the intent to scalpel your brain.
.. Watching Jennifer Arroyo on bass is like being front row center at a fully clothed burlesque show in the 1930s. Its hard, sexy, and sassy and will give you chills up and down your spine. She continues to evolve while reminding you why Suicide city is home to all that care to take a step into their world. Lady J is and will always stay in my book of incredibly fierce bassists, if you have ever seen her live chances are shes in yours as well.
.. If you look at everything you will still miss everything. Every time I see Suicide City live I notice something new that I never realized before. This time around it was Bill Graziadeis fast finger combat on guitar. He is on point, on note and simply indestructible. Truth be told, that if Billy were to bleed chances are.. citizens of SC would pour out.
.. In all honesty I cant say enough about AJ Marchettas constant growth from day one to the present. He may appear to be calm and relaxed, however, give him a stage and a guitar and you will see only the opposite. He will leave your eyes spinning while he does just the same. I could tell you how great he plays, but you should already be aware of that after observing him for more than a moments time.
