Mr. Voodoo Reviews: Suicide City: "Not My Year"
.. What can be said about the music scene of today giving us any hope of originality? Our kids ears have been taken over by pop culture and sample machines creating loops that have been long created well as recreated. The fact is most of todays music has lost its edge, the drive that once took our minds front stage center has abruptly left us in the dark Although, even with this being said, every so often Im surprised, engulfed by a new sound, and just like the first time my ears took in an echo... I am a kid again.
.. Suicide City, (formally Rodek) has in fact stirred up more than just a mere echo with their debut release Not My Year they have in fact created an earthquake. Produced by Suicide Citys own guitarist/vocalist Billy Graziadei and injected with the sounds of Jennifer Arroyo on bass/vocals, AJ Marchetta on guitar, Dan Lamagna on drums and Karl Bernholtz behind the microphone, Not my Year will leave your veins wanting another dose of this 5 track masterpiece.
.. Opening with a thick and sexy bass line, followed by a unison team effort of musical talents, Chauvinistic gone Ballistic will be the only words to scream after hearing SCs opening track, Fxck your Dreams. While digging deeper inside you will find yourself wrapped up in the center of Suicide City, from the lively sounds of Give me your Pity to the melodically induced cadence of Marching Backwards this is one release your music shelf yearns for.
.. The production factor is flawless, the audio is as well crisp as the collaboration is incredible. Every song is an entity of its own, unlike other recent releases featuring track one repetition Suicide City lands itself smack dab in the middle of a music crisis with pure originality. The Bottom line: Not my year is more than just a debut release from a handful of talented musicians; it truly is a dent in music history.
