i dont know who reading this knows, but i have a few profiles set up on a few modeling sites. just hoping to get some freelance work or even prints because any model worth her salt has to have a decent portfolio. i get a lot of correspondence, actually, some of it good, some of it not so good.
a few months ago, i was contacted through email by someone purporting to be 'donald clark'. he sent a spiel describing KRISHO natural world wellness and that its a brand new line of face creams and anti-aging potions just being born in denmark, but the company is planning on branching out to the US, and he is scouting for models to represent their products.
i would be paid $750 for my cooperation, and also i would be an honored guest at the launch party.
well shit, sez i!! this sounds too good to be true!!

because, you see, i received a ups package yesterday with 4 us money orders in them for $850 each. i sat blinking at them for a while. see, this 'donald clark' (what a nice, anonymous, sounding name) and i had corresponded through email several times after i said i accepted, and he wrote me at one point, explaining that he would send me MY payment via money order and also THE PHOTOGRAPHERS payment at the same time. he also said that included with the payments would be more information on the company, my job, etc etc.
so yesterday he was blowing up my phone. like mad. i could barely understand him; his english was so poor; but at first i thought, well, hes foreign, probably european, after all, the company is in denmark, god knows where he is from, etc etc...
i always try to look for the best in people.
he was adamant that i cash the money orders immediately; that much i understood. so i did. god help me please, i need you now, i did. i went to my bank and cashed them. i kept $750 and took the other $2650 in an envelope, searching for a party store or gas station that sold moneyGRAMS specifically. meanwhile, hes calling and calling and making no sense and im increasingly getting the feeling im being had; that everything is all wrong, that im some kind of dupe, that i got suckered and pretty soon now im going to get a call from my bank saying EXCUSE ME, MISS, these money orders were counterfeit, we need you to come in for questioning.'
but even as all these alarm bells are going off, IM STILL HOPING FOR THE BEST. IM STILL HOPING THIS IS REAL AND I HAVE A REAL JOB COMING. i found a party store and sent the money as i was told. do you know how much it costs to send two thousand six hundred and fifty dollars via moneygram? $105. out of my pocket. i cant afford that shit, man.
so he called AGAIN and i told him slowly and in small words that i want him to send me BY MAIL any and all information he has on his company and the job i have been paid to do and that i expect to be FULLY REIMBURSED for the hundred and five bucks i forked over to get that money to some person i dont know in st charles louisiana.
GOD HOW COULD I HAVE BEEN SO FUCKING STUPID???
AFTER the fact, AFTER i went to the bank and everything was done and it was TOO LATE, i googled krisho natural world wellness and you know what came up? a couple of links to models writing about THE SAME THING, ONLY THE NAME 'DONALD CLARK' WAS 'JON SMITH' OR SOMETHING. naturally, their posts hastened to add, only a complete ASS would play along with this, as its SO OBVIOUSLY a scam....
oh god i hope this is legitimate. because if it isnt, i dont know what im going to do. i only have 2 grand in my checking account, and if i have to pay the bank for those money orders, which totalled 3400, im fucked.

that money was for a used car. for my divorce. that money was being saved so i can maybe find a roommate and get a small apartment. and all i can do now is pray that everything is ok. that it IS a real job, that a photographer WILL contact me, that everythings ok.
