Finally almost time for my leaving day at work. I'm not being lazy (honest) just decided to leave because of awkward hours, plus I fell quite far behind in my revision and the exams are in May tongue

Next year though, I will do more studying so I don't have to leave a job half way through term. smile

Just thought I'd do a post to tell all you Wow fans what servers I'm on, just in case anyone else was on similar.

I can pm you the name of a character if you'd like to raid sometime. Sometime next month that is. I've got exams at the moment and also don't want to log into Wow again...

Ever get the feeling that there was a day in school - which you missed- where people were taught how to socialise and how to chat up the opposite sex? Every time I look at all the beautiful awesome women on SG I sort of think; well I wouldn't actually know what to say if I met one of them anyway, so why am I...

No. You're just being paranoid and insecure like the rest of us guys are. We all get stupid around the fairer sex (Did you know that looking at a pretty girl for five minutes can reduce a man's effective IQ by as much as 20 points? True fact.) The trick is not to get nervous... which obviously is easier said than done. Lord knows I rarely manage it.

Just talk to them. Don't make a big deal out of it and it won't be a big deal. You'll find they're less intimidating when you remember they're just human beings like the rest of us. wink Not a lot less intimidating... but some what.

Obviously though, there are a few rules you should obey:

1) In the words of WilWheaton: Don't be a dick.
Act like a gentleman and you will be treated as such. This won't get a girl to like you any more than she would other wise, but it will stop her from hating you should you screw everything else up (see rule two).

2) Don't get caught checking out her tits.
Or any other part of her anatomy for that matter. This is just plain embarassing and makes you look like a bit a dick. (For proof of concept please see the testemonials Abbiss left on my profile.)

3) Just be yourself.
If a girl doesn't like you for who you are she shure isn't going to like you for pretending to be something else.

And a s ageneral rule: Don't take me too seriously either tongue
zodiswide:
WilWheaton is god. But in beardier form.

Have noticed recently that usually the most ignorant people are the people who love to throw around words and phrases like; bigot, small-minded, intolerant, backward, old-fashioned. While being hateful is a bad thing, you have to realise that every human has a 3D personality, not like the 2D people that Hollywood and Politicians try to present us with. So while you may find someone's views...

evilgasm:
To say that words are harmless: well sorry, but that is wrong. Words can be as leathal as weapons when it comes to issues of discrimination and even extremism. The problem is that one persons words will quickly become anothers thoughts, and in many cases lead to action.

Whether the reason for a person to hold intollerant views is based on ignorance or arrogance is not relevant to the fact that these views must be opposed. It may affect the way we need to tackle them, but not the fact that they need to be tackled.

Convincing people that they are wrong is a tough job, and one that isn't always going to work out. The battle is not for those who have already made up their mind and chosen the side of hatred. It is for those who have not. It is to make sure that all the people listening who have not chosen one side or the other choose the right one. And it truly is as fundamental as right and wrong. To allow hatred and intollerence to spread, even if it's just through words, only serves to strengthen that hatred.

All hate, all intollerence, all corruption... it starts in the minds of men. It starts with thoughts and words long before it becomes deeds. In order to stop the cycle you have to change the minds. This can only be done through words. By speaking about what is good, and condeming what is evil.
zodiswide:
But there is no empirical right, wrong, good or evil. So often in human society we just end up trying to make someone feel bad because they have a different view. America is a great example. In some states people would try and make you feel stupid or evil if you're an atheist. In others they would do the same if you're a theist. But neither of those groups is 100% right in their belief, so they have subjective views of what right or wrong is. And since there is no real higher power, people are entitled to have whatever views they like. One persons views never supersede another's, so while we might think that being nationalist-for example- is stupid, you can't tell the person that they are 'wrong' you can only say that you disagree with nationalist sentiment.

So in speaking about what is 'good' and condemning what is 'evil' everyone is going to have different, often conflicting, views. And that's basically how we end up in the state we are in. We all convince ourselves that the other side will be the doom of humanity and we must stop them. It makes much more sense to try and understand why they have those views and in the case of the worst extremists (those who would act on their views) ignore them and allow the authorities to keep a close eye on them. Like we do with terrorist groups like the IRA or Al Qaeda. We don't openly oppose them every day. We ignore their hate filled view of humanity and let the people with the power to stop them (the police and MI5/CIA/Interpol) keep an eye on them to ensure they don't try and blow anything up. In the meantime we live by example. By living non-racist, sexist, homophobic or xenophobic lives we are an example to the younger generations. We don't need to talk about it all the time, because often it will only affirm someones beliefs because humans don't like being told that they are wrong.

This comment has been slightly incoherent, lol. Basically I agree with what Morgan Free man said;

Interviewer; 'How do you think we can put a stop to racism'
Morgan Freeman; 'Stop talking about it'
