Ok, I here is a valid rant, bitch, complain whatever you want to call it.

I walked into my office yesterday morning and found an envelope addressed to me in regards to a 'In recognition of your achievement' packet which gives me the option of picking from a list of objects one 'free' item. Cool right?

Yeah, real cool a $30 dollar door prize for working at a University for 5 years. Don't get me wrong here I enjoy the work I do, the people? Not so much, and students even less so (let me rephrase, the students that are rotten, even less so).

Now the real reason I am going to throw up this rant is this. When I first interviewed here I was interviewing for a systems administration job, maintaining server software, services etc. Some of my previous work experience and education gave me a leg up in the interview because it quickly turned to 'other' skills I possessed. Programming was one skill that was mentioned.

That job skill is what got me my job. Great right? Wrong, let me tell you why. In today's job market a traditional 'programmer' job goes for 20-30k more then what I am making currently. In addition to writing software applications (alone, without a team of developers) I have also been maintaining servers, clients etc.

I need a new job, this is crap, I hate being taken advantage of.
