I've learned how to classify my friendships in terms of friendly acquaintance, friend, and close, trusted friend. I know who's there and who's not. People who betray me in a major way only get so many chances to earn my trust back. I think usually I allow 3, depending on what they do. Max has wasted too many. He has an unhealthy level of anger and violence towards me at the moment and that's just not safe.

The problem is that my recent ex used to be my best friend. We just need to not be close for now, we're both stressed out and getting on each other's nerves in the same old ways. It's too soon. Even with a couple weeks, or a month, we should be able to be friends again.
