so there is really nothing for dvd ripping on osx or even on pc that will do the trick well. This was our solution:
DiGiX DVD Player (has code to turn off macrovision) - $60
ADVC100 manf. Canopus (takes compon vid source and turns it into dv stream over firewire) - $~300
Plug these bad girls in and you can open up any vid source in iMovie or other video editing or capture program. Works great.
