PUNGENT STENCH, ENGORGED, PHOBIA, BUNG
As band names go, Pungent Stench has one of the best or worst (depending upon how you look at it). The British (theyre actually from Austria --zeni) grindcore group's equally disgusting cover artwork on its 1991 nuclear Blast album, Been Caught Buttering-- wherein two decomposed severed heads are locked in a French kiss with tongues all the way out-- is another classic of questionable taste. But Portland's own blood-swollen Engorged raises enough of a stink (and has an equally good/bad name) to give Pungent Stench a run for the money. That band's growling grind remains, as, er pungent as ever after all these years, but Engorged's throbbing rancor is irrepressibly fierce.
