I had my first critique of the semster in my drawing class on Wednesday morning. I only spent three-four hours on the drawing, which is an abstracted african art inspired self-portrait, using conte crayons (earthy chalks). It's an african-inspired mask that resembles me. I'll post picts when I get it back. It was well received but I knew it needed more work. During the one-on-one with my instructor, we discussed it's weaknesses. So I took it home putting in another few hours of work. I took it in this afternoon as promised. She said it was "awesome!" It isn't, but it was nice to hear her say that. She's a very tough sell.

We had a guest speaker this even regarding an african-art exhibit in our school gallery. My instructor, the head of the art department, then paraded numerous people past my drawing, praising me . It was a new and wonderful experience having a large number of people viewing and commenting on my work. It was a class assignment so I won't get into it being "Art", but it was nice to be praised and to have people question me. I learned a lot. And it made my year. I look forward to the challenges of building and creating a body of work to show in a gallery someday. And then to re-invent myself again and again (eventhough what galleries want is familiar and thus salable.)

My cat has been quite unhappy that I've spent more time drawing than loving on her. She kept getting into my art supplies and walking across my drawing numerous times. She now as sanguine colored fur on per white paws. Its cute and annoying at the same time.
