Get to Know My Tattoos

So, I love my tattoos. I only have three of them but I'm looking forward to getting more very soon. I have a couple of plans for getting work done after ECCC when I have money again. But let me introduce you all to the ones I have currently.

The first tattoo I got was on my upper back and it looks like this

When I got this one, I went in with my mom who was getting her second tattoo (my mom is the coolest person ever. She is super proud of me here on SG and how many Hopefuls can say that about their parents?) When I decided to get this, I was under the impression that this was the knot that was our family's symbol. I'd seen it places growing up and my cousin also has it tattooed on her wrist. Later after it was tattooed, I found out my great-grandfather just doodled it one day and it kind of stuck around. Anyway, the color really needs to be fixed up which is another project for when I have money but despite all of its flaws, I love it. Because it's on my back, I kind of forget it's there to be honest.

My second tattoo I got is my absolute favorite. This one is on the side of my left calf. It was a super easy tattoo to get done except for a few bits that touched the nerve on the back of my leg. That kind of hurt like a bitch, but it was completely worth it because this piece makes me so happy.

In case you can't read it, this says "We're so busy watching out for what's ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are." This Calvin and Hobbes quote speaks to me a lot because I am the kind of person that worries about everything. I worry about what might happen in ten years if this and this and then this improbable thing also happens. I play out future conversations in my head for hours thinking of every possible way it could go. This tattoo helps me remember to just breathe and enjoy life right now because if I worry so much about the future, I will miss everything happening right in front of me.

My third and most recent tattoo was a birthday present from my best friend. She took me out to lunch and then we went to each get tattoos, this one being her first. She ended up getting a tattoo behind her ear and she was so calm, I thought she had fallen asleep. I on the other hand am super fidgety all the time and had a hard time staying still for this one. This one is on my left wrist. I chose this location because whenever I write notes to myself, I will always scribble them onto my left wrist or hand so they are easily visible later.

This one is a very simple but very important reminder. I am, as most of us are, my worst critic and I some days I have a hard time seeing the good in myself. This is a constant memory that I'm not perfect and but my flaws are fine. For those who make fun of people with tattoos saying that they'll regret them when they're old and wrinkly, this tattoo serves yet another purpose. When I am all veiny and wrinkly, I'll look down at my wrist and remember that despite my aging body, I'm still beautiful and so is all of my ink.

So now you all know a little bit more about me and I'm really looking forward to the day when I get new ink done and can share that all with you too.

@warfin25 I feel the same. I'd love to be able to share it with my kids whenever that time comes.  I read Scientific Progress Goes Boink the most, so I'd say that's probably my favorite.
