This is just going to a blog about the comics I've enjoyed this year and the comics I'm really looking forward to.

My favs of the last year:

From DC:

From the Indies:

Its been a great year for comics, after all of the bad press about the New 52 reboot, the increasing focus on digital comics and the mess of Fear Itself, its never been a better time to get into comics really. Im really not a DC reader but the quality of the reboot has been incredible, the Batman and Flash comics are incredible Jim Lee is back drawing comics (I've been a fan for over 20 years) and Red hood has been extremely good (Kenneth Rocafort is awesome).

Marvel have sort of dropped the ball with their main titles and the summer event was just crappy, so I've been enjoying the fringe comics such as Annihilators (I love a good cosmic opera) and Secret Avengers. Avenging Spider-man, Incredible Hulk and Avengers X-Sanction have brought back some of my favorite artists and so far are pretty cool stories, cant wait to see where they end up, just hope this years event isn't as bad as Fear Itself was.

The Indy publishers have really had an awesome year and this year its getting better, Aspen has let Joe Benitez run with the awesome steampunk of Lady Mechanika, Top Cow's Witchblade and Artifacts have been nothing short of spectacular, Dark Horse has been filling in the gaps of the awesome Mass Effect universe and IDW has released some pretty damn good Lovecraftian horror and wierdness in the Dunwich Horror and Monocyte.

This year has already started really well, Dark Horse's Dark Matter and Image's Fatale are incredible so far, here's the titles im really looking forward to over the next few months:

I've barely picked up any Marvel this last year I think the only thing I'm currently picking up is Punisher Max and that finishes pretty soon. I'm a bit put off Marvel due to everything being tied into some on-going event or being related to a previous one. Avengers X-Sanction looks good but I've no idea what's lead up to it. I liked Messiah War and Second Coming does X-Sanction tie into that or have I missed something along the way? What was that Schism thing all about?

I picked up some Uncanny X-Force books, I thought Apocalypse Solution was excellent and X-23 The Killing Dream, I was pretty narked when I read that they're cancelling X-23 despite it selling better than other titles. I guess I tend to pick up Marvel in trades if I pick it up at all which is probably why a lot of the recent stuff doesn't make a lot of sense to me but then I'm really one for superhero comics in general anyways.

I'm actually picking up loads of DC which is pretty funny since previous to the relaunch I wasn't picking up any. It's not the mainstream stuff since I find their top tier characters pretty boring really with an exception for Batman although I haven't picked any Batman stuff up in ages. I've been picking up Red Hood too it's not on my pull list but I've picking it up, I'm not really sure what the hell's going on but the art's good and it's kind of fun. Swamp Thing and Frankenstein are probably my top DC picks but Demon Knights and Justice League Dark are worthy of a mention too.

I'm a big fan of Ron Marz' take on Witchblade, I thought volume 1 of Artifacts was really good but volume 2 seemed a bit forgettable really. Lady Mechanika rules it has to be said, one of the best things out there at the moment.

I'm looking forward to the Witchblade/Red Sonja mash up which should be fun I'm a big Red Sonja fan even though it does seem to get looked down upon for some reason. Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan's take on Conan should be good stuff, Dark Horse hasn't fumbled yet with Conan.
