i highly recommend that anyone here who enjoys rock music of the non-mainstream variety to check out epitonic because it is one of the most useful websites ever.
just look up a band you like and then see who they relate to that band. have fun- you'll find like 20 bands you will soon adore within the next hour.
i've come to realize that my musical tastes are totally ridiculous. i either listen to total screaming painful hardcore, or the quietest man and guitar songwriting. "ah, enough of the locust, time for some jeff buckley."
how does that make sense?
on that site epitonic i went to look for this band called the mountain goats that a friend suggested (i approve of them) and then found another band the singer was in, called extra glenns (neither of the members are named glenn. sneaky bastards). i really enjoy the words to their songs.
i wrote out the words to an extra glenns song in jaidee's journal, so you could go read that if you wish. it's a great song. i also really like this mountain goats song called "no children". it's very upbeat acoustic guitar with a bit of piano and a little bit of backing vox.
i hope that our few remaining friends
give up on trying to save us
i hope we come up with a fail-safe plot to piss off the dumb few who forgave us
i hope the fences we mended
fall down beneath their own weight
i hope we hang on past the last exit, i hope it's already too late
and i hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
someday burns down
and i hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
and i never come back to this town again
in my life
i hope i lie
and tell everyone you were a good wife
and i hope you die
i hope we both die
i hope i cut myself shaving tomorrow
i hope it bleeds all day long
our friends say "it's darkest before the sun rises"
but we're pretty sure they're all wrong
i hope it stays dark forever
i hope the worst isn't over
and i hope you blink before i do
and i hope i never get sober
and i hope when you think of me years down the line
you can't find one good thing to say
and i'd hope that if i'd find the strength to walk out
you'd stay the hell out of my way
i am drowning
there is no sign of land
you are coming down with me
hand in unloveable hand
and i hope you die
i hope we both die
holy shit i just realized how depressing that song is. when i listen to it, it puts a big ol' smile on my face, but reading the lyrics is terrible.
oh well. that's how things go.
reprazent.
