SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I've been a lousy journaller, haven't I? I'm terribly sorry. But so much has been incredibly intense in the day-to-day that while I've certainly been hanging around SG, I've been using it as more of a "refuge" where I can lose myself in pretty pictures and groups, and not pay attention to my life. But there will be a few updates scattered throughout today's writings.

There were bunnies:

I've made many, many funny faces (this one captured by Booth:

One of my roommates started the "stair bear" theme-joke-thing in our house. The original stair bear now has no ears, poor little guy. But now there are four!

I play with them sometimes...

And yet...

"It's not that I don't like you guys, I do, but..." she said, trailing off and beginning to quiver with awkwardness.
"But we're drunken idiots," he said, saving her.
"Exactly. And I need a bit more quiet."

A few hours later I rented an apartment. That was yesterday. Today I'm signing the lease. I'm moving by the end of the month! (Just don't know when because apparently the guy who's there now might move early.)

On a different and earlier drizzly day, I was walking to the bus after work. I slowed as I noticed a large number of seagulls circling the street ahead of me, crying out loud with pain. I looked ahead and saw two other seagulls grounded, one dead at the side of the road and the other alive, but not moving, sitting in the middle of the road. I ran out and moved the bird without thinking about anything to the sidewalk. Not sure what else to do, I sat down beside it and promised I'd keep it safe.

For about half an hour we sat there, I softly pet the bird's head and talked quietly. I'm sure a few people thought I was crazy, but most actually stopped and asked with genuine concern if the bird was injured. One woman told me to call a local wild animal rehab organization, which I did several times, but never got through to anyone. So I just sat there.

Slowly the bird started to flap its wings, stretching out, and eventually trying to lift off the ground. The first time the bird didn't get too far, just back into the middle of the road. A woman exiting the apartment building I was in front of had quite a laugh as I lectured the bird out loud on doing such stupid things while stopping traffic to pick it up and bring it back to the sidewalk.

Shortly after that, the seagull took off! I'm not sure what was wrong initially, perhaps just shock, but it took off and joined its flock and off they went. And so did I.

That was a really beautiful thing you did.

Henceforth you shall be known as the kindred angel of wayward seabirds!
