Well, I got my photo pass to the Roxy. After a funny little ordeal.
I went hoping that Jordan Blilie (the singer I spoke to on thursday to see if I could get a pass) put in a word for me, but he hadn't -- probably busy with the Roxy's extra tight-assed security. But when I first got there, they let me in after I explained why I had two cameras. Halfway through the Chinese Stars' set though, a security guard taps me and tells me I don't have clearance and escorts me out. I try to dart back into the crowd but he catches me.

Outside, Cody (the guitarist) over hears me telling some random stranger on the street that I got kicked out for my pro-camera and he comes and says maybe he could help. He makes some phone calls. We chat a bit about LA, dirty streets, Roxy's harassing their bassist/keyboardist and not letting them videotape their own show...etc. Then the guy with the pass comes out. Yay. I get to go back in with my equipment. For whatever reason, the security guy who threw me out said "Hey, just kidding? Eh? Right? Just kidding?" Like I was mad, but I wasn't. I mean, I understand they're doing their job. Though, he could have easily seen I wasn't some sneaky image selling creep. The other security guys gave me the thumbs up. I don't know why.

I took lots of pictures. And that's about it. So many little scene kids. I mean, I don't want to be mean -- because when I was their age I would've been so jealous of them, getting to go out to Hollywood and see bands. But at the same time, some smelled really bad and were so whiny. The kids who fought their way to the middle though, I have respect for them, they calmed down and sang along and did their thing. The kids on the side where I was shooting though, just whine whine whine, why is this photographer in our way...blah. I'm small. I don't take up that much space. Really.

I will post a couple OK photos in section 'at work.'

The trouble it took leads me to believe I won't get to take pictures at Interpol on Friday because really, if the band hadn't intervened I wouldn't have gotten back in -- and Interpol isn't going to be hanging around talking to random fans and helping them get photo passes outside of an arena show.

...back to freelance work. the clock screams at me...

Maybe this has already been said but -- fuck valentine's day. Tell your loved ones you love them everyday. And if you're like me and nobody loves you, this day ain't no better or worse than the rest. or maybe i am just trying to make myself feel better. In any case, it's not working. i'm still a sucker, a sap and I'd probably not say these things if I had a valentine. Or I would. We'd say it together.

I can feel your pain. I used to shoot live shows a while back and sometimes its more trouble than its worth. Yes I really did work on Purgatory Flats. If you ever saw it there is a little fishing infomercial playing on the tv in the background of one of the scenes. I shot it, yep that's my talent shining through. Ha, ha, I was a camera department p.a. it was fun.
