I had this one student for the first time yesterday. I'd seen him around the center and he totaLLy reminded me of a 9-year oLd Homer Simpson--from his tubby buiLd and Lethargic demeanor, to the bLank expression on his face. Meeting him, and trying to teach him onLy confirmed my initiaL impression.
David said: "I can't work when I'm tired and hungry," (
) and, he continued, "I hate schooL, and I hate SyLvan..." He refused to take a speLLing test, and wouLdn't read quietLy, butt kept asking why I didn't give him more tokens. The other students ignored him when he tried to distract them.
We do the best we can. Some kids are destined to just say D'OH!!!
