Anybody ever see that Star Trek documentary Trekkies?
I saw most of it tonight for the first time in a while, and two things about it stuck in my head.
First: most of the fans they showed and followed were ABSOLUTELY OFF THEIR ROCKERS. JesusstuckinablenderChrist! People that go to jury duty in Starfleet uniform, erotic fan fiction with Kirk and Spock, people that memorize made up songs from 1965 episodes.
But these were the scary and embarrassing extremes.
Secondly: I'd really like to watch some Star Trek! I haven't actually sat down and viewed much to speak of in a few years now. That may not sound like much time, but I was five times the Ubergeek that I am now (I've mellowed some with age, I guess).
