Back in the Saddle
Last night, I ran my first tabletop rpg game since getting out of the hospital, kicking off the first creative thing I've done in 2011. I think it went well, despite me getting confused a couple of times in certain parts of my notes, and usage of a deus ex machina at the end in the form of a giant earth-moving genie. To be fair, I'm still hurting from blood clots and Thom wants to crash his spaceship into a necromancers head, so we gotta get a move on with the plot. Everybody seemed to have fun, and Tom 'Azmo Danakar' King went all out with a bard rakasta that was crafting original songs on the spot for the sole purpose of giving everyone a +1 buff. I can count on one hand the number of people who bust out that kind of dedication for a guest appearance. I'm going to run another game or two to finish off this arc, then hand it over the GMs chair Ben so he can run a Mage game. I LOVE Mage. It's one of the few games I'll play enthusiastically without a single whimper of complaint.
This morning after having some breakfast and getting over my now-daily migraine, I was inspired to sit down and draw the genie that showed up near the end. The last critter I drew for my gaming artwork was a trio of orcs, and while parts of the drawing were okay, I was horribly drunk and depressed when I drew it, and it was a god-awful picture. I'm much happier with how this Dao turned out. I'm no Geof Darrow yet, but I'm working on it.

Yeah, it's a different world out there now, and worth experimenting with. Here's an interesting article on ebook publishing that a friend pointed out to me today. This plus a discussion at a local tech group get together convinced me to drop the kindle price to $3.99 so it's in the same impulse buy price range as smart phone apps.
