So let me tell you about McDonalds. I never thought I would ever be able to work in fast food, but most days, I have a lot of fun. I thought that with my low self esteem and social anxiety, that I wouldn't last a week. But I'm still there! Then again, I believe that this wouldn't be the case if I was still living in my ghetto home town of New Jersey. People could be REALLy nasty there.
One thing that has been bugging me though: I have been there about a month and I haven't been trained. Yes, you read that correctly. I pretty much just got thrown in there, and then people wonder why I don't know a lot of things after a month.
One of the managers was really impatient with me until I told her this (she rarely worked with me, so she didn't know I was pretty much training myself). She said no wonder there is such a high turnover rate there (over 200%). She is a lot nicer to me now. She thought that I was just being lazy or not paying attention. Can you imagine being somewhere for a month and NEVER get trained, yet having everyone look at you like you're an idiot??
Besides that annoyance, I really do like it. I don't get as many rude customers as I thought I would, and it's the first job where I feel that I can actually be myself. Who knew?
