My uberly religious sister was over and listening to one of her Christian rock stations while I was asleep in a chair busy with not doing Finals things.

Anyway, so this ad came on with two people talking (like most of the more creative ones) and it of course started to go on about the "truth".

But I was quickly surprised in my sleepy state of mind because the commercial started to promote a very open-minded and tolerant message about religious truth! One guy was talking about how the door to heaven or God could be described differently by people but it all leads to the same thing: love and acceptance. Not a great metaphor but hey, I figured it was something.

The other guy was very skeptical, though. And would use the tired, cliched, subjective bible references rebukes to kill this guys open-mindedness. And it ends like so:

Asshole Christian: "Well, Jesus said he was the door to truth."
Supposed Pagan: "Well Jesus wasn't very open-minded was he?"
Asshole Christian: "No, he was just right."

And then it ends and I realized I'd been duped in my waking state.

The fact that the open-minded guy had a goofy voice and the Asshole Cristian had a normal, "reasonable" voice made a lot more sense, too.

So, so much for tolerance I guess.

Just to fill in a blank for any who might wonder, I'm a strange kind of Aetheist who still believes in a soul but no God. Thats the short, short, I'm-not-going-to-get-into-my-long-winded-views-response.

And while I was writing I had to stop halfway because there was a major car wreck right outside my apartment building. I had to run out to make sure nobody was unconscious or bleeding or anything...luckily, everyone was relatively alright considering it. I just woke and it's already an eventful day...eventful days are dangerous. You never know what event is next.

Good times.
