They say the fall of the Roman Empire set the world back 2,000 years. 2,000 /years/ worth of knowledge, technology, ideologies, culture, etc, etc...all gone, lost and destroyed. Makes ya wonder where we (as in, the world) would be today if it'd never happened. Would we be 2,000 years ore advanced? Maybe more so, maybe less so, we'll never know, but it's interesting to consider where we could've been if "the powers that were" in ancient Rome hadn't forgotten that no matter how big you are, there's always a balance of power...

Furthermore, when you stop to consider all the groups of people who have been oppressed for centuries--namely women, in general--it makes ya wonder how much different our culture would be today if they'd had the luxory of liberties that all those rich white guys had.

This whole topic could go on forever, and if I actually put all my thoughts on the matters down here this entry would be ridiculous. Anyway...

"One law for the lion and ox is oppression"

That's what William Blake always signed his letters with--it's such a great quote. What else could one expect from a guy who wrote Hell's Proverbs?
