i was looking through a tool catalog the other day, and i thought about the old cliche "why do men love their power tools?" and i mean actual tools, not the penis metaphor. and i got to thinking about why i feel the need to acquire and stock pile tools that i have no urgent need for. similar to the way many women buy clothes they may never wear. and my motivation was so that whatever may happen, i have the tool ready to repair it, and so that i can build some unnecessary monstrosity that may in some way vailidate my masculinity. men, in general, enjoy repairing and building things. and, on a more basic instinct, this may be man's way of creating things. while the female has the ability to create life, man has no basic ability. so in order to cope or have a means of creation, man developed technology. but why man felt the necessity to have a form of creation is beyond me. maybe some kind of insecurity or jealousy of the female sex... who knows? but if so, it seems we can almost attribute the current technological boom we enjoy to man's jealousy of women. so let's hear it for male insecurity.
