Just can't get enough...

So...even though my sleeve is still a work in progress and I promised myself I wouldn't do anything else until it was finished...I guess I lied, so here is the beginning of my new thigh piece on my right leg (seriously the right side of my body is lacking in the body modification department)...it's based off the artwork of Brian Viveros. I took this particular picture upside down at an odd angle while I was in the midst of getting it worked on...it is obviously not finished but I'm still one of those people that like to share.
My I-pod has been very temperamental lately, and the other day it had a seizure and then promptly died. I decided to turn the radio on while I was on my way to school; the host of the show who I usually find amusing made a somewhat crude remark about the newer generation of kids and their lack of people skills. I did have to partially agree with the statement, many younger kids are used to internet and text "slang"...hell, my sister who is 16 is terrible with people. She's competent, yes, but when it comes to making an impression on a person or a crowd, she kinda goes blank up there and has no clue what to say, and proceeds to just disappear into the shadows...yeah she's a ninja haha ANYWAY...the host then said that the younger generation will have a hell of a time finding reputable jobs. "The kids these days with those gagued ears and the tattoos everywhere, how are they going to be taken seriously at a job interview?" It kind of blew my mind that a radio host who I thought was pretty open minded would say something like that...part of me wanted to call the show or send them an email about how rude of a statement that was. There are obviously many modified people with jobs that are more than reputable. I work at a pizza shop at the moment, not a glamorous job, but fuck I'm a college student in her twenties, am I expected to be working at some accounting firm? Some days people look me up and down and make that face, you know, the face that says I'm disgusted by you, and some people who are my age have told me this to my face. When I go out on deliveries though, I'm surprised to see how many heavily tattooed people live around my town..who knew? They live in nice homes, they order pizza, they're like everyone else haha my point is, when I deliver to those customers, there's that reassurance...like I shouldn't have to worry about finding a job in the future because there are people that have obviously done it with more tattoos than me. So listening to this radio host yammering on and on about bullshit and thinking about the people I encounter on a daily basis made me realize how in the middle everything is in my town/state. When will body mods truly be "acceptable" to the majority? Can we have tattooed lawyer and teachers who show off their sleeves and don't have to wear retainers? Why should we have to hide who we are? I'm working towards my PhD at the moment and was told that I'd have to totally cover up and put on a show for everyone I work with to be accepted. Just a thought, one that has obviously been discussed/written about several times by many different people, so it's not like I'm making some new statements here...

What is your PhD going to be?
