Exhausted, but unable to sleep, I looked over my profile. Christ, none of the jokes in there translate to text. Gonna hafta redo it. Feeling lazy not, so I'll just crop the 3 worst ones. Wondering how may people I shooed off because my vicious sense of humor doens't translate well... Well, since the tone of my journal is a little too serious, is likely...

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't really sound like something I was going to be readily able to do (my card had a weird custom cooler from the manufacturer). I replaced it with the Zalman ZF700-Cu (with the help of my friend) and 3 hours later am still running sub-55 even with fairly high end 3D game playing. So, problem resolved.

Oh, I've put the computer together myself at various times in the past but it's tricky and my hands are too large to do some of the installation required without injury (seriously, I've cut myself on the boards). And I've managed to screw it up enough that I fried a motherboard and power supply (I hooked the four pin detachable bit of the 24 pin power supply connector to the wrong thing and sent much, much more power into it than I should have.).

So these days unless it's something relatively simple (I'll do my own RAM installation when I go up to 2 gigs, for example) I find it better to rely on my friend Eddy, who's more familiar with hardware, less likely to screw up catastrophically, has better tools, and smaller hands. In this case...I probably could have eventually figured out how to take the previous cooler off and put the new one on, but I didn't want to risk any damage at all to the video card that I had paid 400 dollars for back in the day. (Replacing it would of course be cheaper now, but not *cheap*.)

The city where I live has the highest per capita restaurants in the Wisconsin, and some of the highest (outside tourist meccas) in the US. You'd think that competition would crush the ones that suck. You'd be wrong. In the last 3 weeks, I've been out to eat 5 times. 3 of the meals where complete shite, and they were all in established restaurants that...

After reading yet another medical research paper on yet another failed drug trial for nerve damage, I again wonder at the morality of banning stem cell research. Stem cells are extracted not from babies as some people believe, nor are they the products of abortions as others have espoused. Stem cells are extracted from the byblows of in vitro fertilization. There are something like a...

So, I realize that this probably isn't the best place to ask this (and that it's highly unlikely that anyone is listening anyway), but in WI there's a massive push to "defend marriage" by banning gay marriage. (I read another story at 2am about it, so it's on my mind.) I just don't understand how someone else's marriage has any affect on the validity of...

Sorry, Stormy. You're disturbingly hot, but I'm afraid that since you're retired you're off my favorite SG list. While I know that you couldn't care less, even if paid, I just had to apologize for removing you in favor of Cecilia.

So, in the real world, last week, I spent 4 hours cleaning a raisin out of a printer. Ended up costing the owner $800...

"If the concept of undeserved anal rape runs against George Bush, you vote for that" - Patton Oswalt

There are hundreds of political theorists around the world, and 10 times as many comics, but few hit the nail on the head as well as Patton there. I just read that the USA has already started activities in Iran, the same way that we started actions...
