Theres a channel her that shows reruns of Happy Days about 5 or six times a day (KDFI 27). I work a rather erratic schedule so i am home often during the day. I don't have cable so mostly whats on are talk shows (Maury, Tyra, Tony Danza, Springer, Montel) or Court shows (Judge Judy, Divorce Court, Judge Alex, Judge Joe Brown) both of which are pretty much crap. So i usually end up watching Happy Days. So after watching it for the last few weeks i have decided that its pretty much crap. I think was probably only good for the first season and a half which is before Fonzie moved in upstairs of the Cunninghams. God, I'm probably totally dating myself with this entry. Most of you will probably only know this show from Nick at Nite reruns, if at all, but I remember loving this show as a kid. But watching it now...its just stupid. FOnzie was supposed to be this tough hoodlum drop out guy that wore a leather jacket, rode a motorcycle and always got the chicks.
brief sidebar as i type this while watching TV: Those Burger King commercials are kinda creepy (I'm taking about the ones with the guy in the Burger King suit and that mask)
Anyway, I don't know how this show managed to stay on as long as it did. I just seemed to get sillier and sillier each season. I mean the completely wussified Fonzie, practically gave him super powers ( I mean how many of you my age didn't pound on every appliance in the house with your fist trying to turn on or off) then i guess they tried to make Richie cool by making him play music in a band with Potsie and Ralph which was just stupid because you could totally see them faking the playing of their instruments.. Then later they bring in Chachi (WTF kinda name is Chachi anyway) and he and Joanie start singing together and then get a shitty spinoff show. DOn't get me started on the Dude Ranch episodes or the whole shark jumping thing or Mork from Ork even.. I don't know, I guess i used to have good nostalgic memories of the show but after watching some episodes lately i just can't understand why. By the end Richie was gone, Joanie was gone, FOnzie was teaching in high school and was completely whipped by that girlfriend with the daughter whow as the girl in Poltergiest. The show completely lost sight of the nostalgia of the 50's. The dad wore his 70's tinted glasses and most everybody wore their late 70's early 80s hair.
Interestingly I did catch an episode starring a young Ton Hanks and another one with Peter Scolari who both went on to star in Bosom Buddies together. There was an early episode that had Maureen McCormick (Marsha from Brady Bunch) in it too.
Shit i didn't quite mean to rant on that. Oh well.
Anyway, the weekend was good. Worked most of Saturday but got to spend most of the day with the G/F on Sunday. Scared myself a bit by doing something domestic with her...shopping at IKEA. Her mission was to buy some lamps. Mine...to not buy anything. Which i have to say i managed successfully though i did see some bookshelves i can use. So after that we went back to my place to chill out for a bit before headign out to dinner and then to see a lecture by Ira Glass, host of This American Life on NPR. It was a good show and we even got to meet him afterwards by sneaking in to a sponsor meet and greet. Were trying to get tickets to the sold out David Sedaris show when he comes later this month. Which reminds me... I gotta get tickets to NIN/ Bauhaus in June. Anyway...If you actually made it to the end of this entry without falling asleep, congratulations!!
Now go look at some sets i shot.
Tex: These Boots
and Doxie: Love Potion
