recently, a tattoo came up on my tumblr dashboard. i do not really like the concept, but it's the debate it struck rather for it's location that is getting to me. it was obviously a neck tattoo, and i'm sure someone on here has seen the post, and the comments to go with it. this neck piece, was her firstpiece of ink and the amount of negative comments on it make me sick!

let's start from somewhere; my first tat was my chest. why? because it was the first piece i had drawn out, and selected, and modified for 2 years prior to getting it. also, i made the decision early on enough, to know, that i would eventually cover my body.

what upsets me so much about this debate, is one of the members i follow(amongst many many others apparently) who thinks because she's a piercer and works in a shop, that she gets full reign of knowing what's right and wrong in the tattoo world. well i have bad fucking news for you. it's her body, and she can do whatever she god damn pleases and let me explain to you why. she probably fucking loves tattoos. she probably loves fucking neck tattoos, and maybe, just maybe, her tattoo is important to her. maybe like for me, it's going to help her feel stronger. maybe it inspires, motivates, creates belief for her.

now, who are you to judge someone? who are you to ordain a right of passage into the tattoo world? was your first tattoo a tramp stamp?(i wouldn't be surprised) does that make you better? does that give you the entitlement to dictate what the right of passage in the tattoo world is?

no, it doesn't you stupid, ignorant, ill-mannered piece of shit.

i'm sick of this. and coming from this ninny she believes that people should 'worry about their jobs.' yeah, maybe you shouldn't get a neck tattoo because you're going to be a psychologist, or a lawyer, or some kind of yuppie wanna be rich snobby elitist world, but i have news for you. everyone, has a fucking tattoo, and everyone's grandma has a god damn tattoo these days. i go to the smallest towns, and get complimented by 60 year old women about how beautiful my tattoos are. and i have a job, my tattooed mechanic has a job, my tattooed teacher has a job, my tattooed boss has a job, my tattooed cousin has a job, my tattooed friend studying psychology, also has two fucking jobs. and guess what, tattoos aren't cheap, so unless you're a very successful panhandler, have a trust fund with neglectful parents, or have shitty tattoos because you went to prison and your best friend ace did it, chances are YOU HAD A JOB, WHEN YOU GOT TATTOOED.

maybe you're like me, and are going to work tomorrow, with my chest tattoo, to work with my tattooed motherfucking coworkers.

i mean, what irks me the most is the gull of this woman. sure fine, it's great and super important to remind people about their life choices (not necessarily, actually), but really, to tell her she won't get a job, and to talk shit about how all tattoo apprentices have more tattoos that are visible compared to the 1950's? COME ON! was it SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE to have a tattoo 60 years ago? NO. is it now? FUCK YEAH, MORE THAN EVER. i mean, to a certain degree a lot of people are still incredibly closed minded, but some people are still racist. so fuck, what's your job then as a piercer in a tattoo shop? PROBABLY not to promote discrimination perhaps? spot on.

so people, this is what really pisses me off. people who are so closed minded in the industry who do not in the least help the movement and advancement, of acceptance of visible, let alone, concealed tattoos. people with tattoos shouldn't be shunned. we fucking know this! so what is your problem? why are you so psychotic? i mean, other than the fact that her self hate posts wreak of her low self esteem, it's just come on man.... maybe it's not the way it is where you're from, maybe montreal, quebec, is very different from europe, or the states, or anywhere else, but the point remains. squashing people makes you as bad, as terrible, as those who hate tattooed people for no reason. i don't give a fuck what you first tattoo was. stop being such a dick.

It's a bad reasoning because like I said it depends what your life plan is. I think it's any artists right to turn away any client for whatever reason they want, but I still find it disgusting to treat someone like pure shit because you don't agree. It makes you as closed minded and those who apparently won't give you a job. I always said that if someone hated the way I looked, then I didn't want to work for them. I don't really need an explanation, I know them, and I find it petty.

People who want to define someone's life because of a decision they made are limiting our future. It may be idealist that I wish people would be respectful, but I'm not ashamed to feel that way.
