this weekend i had to attend the Arts Ball, a black tie event held in a different grand location each year. unfortunately, this year it was held at a new fitness club. it was full of grey men with enlarged prostates and 40 something women with fake tits. i drank champagne and chatted as best i could. i also watched sin city-- i thought it started out fun and sexy only to end absurdly. too bad they let tarantino anywhere near it, everyone knows he can't write a script (dialogue) to save his life. the rest of the weekend i spent reading-- baudelaire's Artifical Paradises arrived so now i'm getting through de quincy to prepare myself for it. i'm also still working through the Wasp Factory. it is weird and readable, but ultimately not very good. if it was on the Independent's top 100 books of the 20th century lists, it can only be because brits are illiterate.
