So I know a lot of us have lost our jobs with the pandemic having struck worldwide. My shop that I just opened in November doing makeup and lash extensions was shuttered on March 10, 2020. I’m rolling closer to the two month closed mark now, and honestly I’ve always been so busy working I never really had time for too many hobbies other than working out.
Then the quarantine came, and I realized I had nothing to do but play video games and work out at home (which isn’t a bad thing, I just needed *more*). I had gone from working at least three jobs per day to none, and I was bored.
I got to talking with my best friend, who is also in the beauty industry and off work. She was thinking about launching a sustainable line of bath and body products and I was all for it. As someone who is allergic to basically EVERYTHING, I am always on the hunt for new stuff. I love LUSH, but there’s so much dye in their bath bombs and after their treatment of their employees during the pandemic, I didn’t want to support them anymore.
After weeks of formulating products and having them approved by the cosmetics licensing board of Canada, we officially launched PrettyPotionsCosmetics!
We’ve had some great success so far and some lovely feedback on our products, and we are hard at work in our respective homes formulating brand new products, as well as seasonal Luxe Boxes. It keeps me busy enough that I don’t think about the loss of my jobs, and it makes me so incredibly happy when people post about how a candle or a bath bomb brings them a little joy in a somewhat dark time.
