rode my motorcycle to work today because the mini is still broken. the new ignition was supposed to arrive today but didn't. blame it on the rain. the rain. i've never ridden on the highway in rain like that. 101 was flooded near sausalito and the water was up to my feet. it threw them backwards on the pegs and i worried for a moment that i might float away. once back in the city and stopped at a light, i made a fist and water, black from the dye in my gloves, poured forth. my hands, too, are dyed black now. there was a fellow in melbourne whose entire body was tattooed solid black. human enigma. i wondered if he ever got tired of it. black tattoo ink never stays pure black so in reality he was sort of a bluish green black. there's no pretending to be normal when you look like a 1950s b-movie martian.
