This is the second time.
Another person I know has disappeared.
Maybe it's strange that it affects me, butI don't really know.
I didn't know him well. In fact, I really only knew him in passing at work.
But I still feel a loss. I feel as if something was taken away from me. A possibility removed from my life.
I barely knew him, but I'll miss him anyway.

Here's to you, Jim. Here's to the happy times you had. Let that be all that is remembered.

No man is an Island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.
John Donne, Meditation XVII

SF driving to Long Beach in no traffic is about 6 hours, not 12, I promise, done it many, many times. 8 max, if you lag. It's totally not a bad drive. Leave by 10 am (after traffic lets up) and don't make too many stops, and you'll be to SF before hitting any more traffic along the way. I've done it in 4 and a half hours, but I was speeding. Worst I ever did was 10 hours, and that was in godforsaken stop traffic through three places en route. Just make sure to take the 5 all the way up until you hit 580, and then cut through from there.

Dia's right. I drive that route far and away more often than I'd like (last sunday to be exact for the second time that week) I make it in 5 hours easy and I'm doing 75 on cruise control the whole time. Much easier at night by the way.
Oh yeah... people do want to talk to you. When you do come to SF drop a line and I'll bet I can get us into some crazy ass adventures. they always seem to surface randomly for me.
