edit: it has become apparent that he was in such a hurry to go play tennis, he put on shoes but no socks, and went out to play. he then got a blood blister on his toe which became infected, and because they lived in the 20s and antibiotics either sucked or were non-existent, he died of blood poisoning a week later.
