Ask any American what America stands for and you will probably hear the word equality mentioned over and over. But do we really believe that? Are we really a nation of Equals? What is equality after all? I decided to look it up in the dictionary just to be sure, and this is what I found.
equality - The state or quality of being equal.
Ok that was easy, so what is equal then? Back to the dictionary...
equal - Being the same or identical to in value.
So if we are truly a nation of equality then we must see all life as having the same or identical value right?
But this cant possible be true for America. Every hour over 1000 (mostly children) die on this earth from starvation. Not because we can't feed them, or because we can't produce enough food, but because we simply dont give a shit. If it takes you 2 minutes to read my rant 34 more human beings will be dead. But what happens when a little girl by the name of Elizabeth Smart is kidnapped (and returned safely I might add). All hell breaks loss. After her kidnapping you couldnt turn the news on for weeks without hearing Elizabeth this, Elizabeth that. People poured out in the hundreds to search fields for little Elizabeth. The talk shows went crazy, parents cried, news ratings soared. But what about the staving children? Who talked about them? Who cried for them? Who did a story on poor black children in third world countries that didnt have anything to eat? NO ONE. All we heard about was how sad it was that one little rich girl got taken from her rich white parents in the middle of the night in a rich suburb of Utah.
I was in my car today when I heard the news that Elizabeth Smart had been reunited with her family. The news reporters were ecstatic. A tragedy is over. But what about the tragedy that in the nine months little Elizabeth was away from here parents over 1/4 million people just like Elizabeth had starved to death. Where were the calls to feed them? Where were the stories about how it only costs 50 cents a day to feed a starving child like Elizabeth? I certainly havent heard any of them. Have you? Where is your bleeding heart for the little girl named Elizabeth in South Africa, though no fault of her own was born into a family that makes less than $50 a year and goes to bed every night without any food?
But wait arent we a nation of equality? Isnt all life equal? How can we justify spending millions of dollars on one little girl, while we let thousands starve to death every day and we do nothing for them?
Maybe instead of being the land of equality, we should be the land of equality for little white rich girls that look cute on TV.

My personal evil and un PC thought was in the realization that they had 5 or 6 other fucking children, and god forbid they might lose one.
I am not so fond of mormons though.
Of course it's not my family so the tragedy isn't mine.
I just get caught up in the tragedy and pain that will never been seen on american television because it makes people uncomfortable and makes them question our "reality". It's good to rant
