Strange day today. I woke up in a bad mood, ended up fine for most of the day, had a little manic spree there late this evening, was brought right back down when I knocked over some stuff and had to glue beaks back on two of my little ceramic ravens (but they fixed fine at least), and now I need to get to bed...

"Peradventure," did anyone else go to Paul McCartney's concert tonight, or see him elsewhere on this tour?

I got my mom the tickets for Mother's Day, so she got the present itself rather late. But I just had to get them for her, regardless of how the timing would have fallen. She's one of those people that won't spend money for things for herself. I...

Paul Mcartney tickets, I wish I'd thought of that for mom's birthday. I bet I could have bought them in september for her. I got her something dumb for her camper instead. You're a better kid than I am.

Hello smile
wow, living with 4 dogs and 4 cats! I love animals...especially dogs. If you would ever like to go to a dog park let me know...there is a super good one downtown-ish.
How long have you played guitar?

Just got back from shooting. I "branched out" today and tried out their 1911 .45. That was fun!
I only shot 50 rounds, because we needed to get back to the house to be here for trick-or-treaters. But I did about half at 15 ft, half at 25 ft, and was almost as accurate at 25 as at 15. My groups weren't beautifully perfect or...

My Dad (aside from being an ultra-conservative christian) is a licensed NRA instructor, with a concealed carry permit. While most kids went out and threw around the ol' pigskin or baseball as their father/son bonding ritual, we'd go down to the rifle range and Dad would show me how to make cans dance. To this day there's nothing that melts away stress the same way as a brick of .22 LR and a bag of cans.

That being said, I have *no* love for the 1911, no matter the caliber. Civilian models are much nicer than our milspec M9s, but it still never feels right in my hand. Maybe it's 'cause I grew up shooting Dad's Browning HiPower 9mm.

I'd have to agree with trevor about the feel of the 1911. god apparently decided that since he had made everthing else about me huge, he would give me little stubby thumbs. But if the pistol feels good in your hand, and you shoot it well by all means enjoy it. I had a tanfoglio witness in .45 for a while that came from the factory with a compensator already installed. I had an issue with the ammo I was trying to use in it, the cheap stuff and I traded it for a glock .40. If I had had enough money at the time to keep both pistols I would have because that witness was probably the best feeling auto I've ever had and when I used decent ammo in it it shot perfectly. I liked the safety system on it also, you could put it on safe with the hammer cocked if you wanted or by pushing the safety all the way down it woud decock and you could then fire it double action. with the compensator to add weight to the muzzle and cut down on the tendency of the muzzle to rise with each shot I could put a whole magazine into a target in about 3 or four seconds. You have to be out in the boonies to do that though, I've never been at a range that would let you do that.

So I just had the sudden urge to make nice deep low notes, so I picked up my bass, stuck a cable into an input of my soundcard, resulting in bass coming through my right speaker, and played along to U2's "A Man and a Woman" for most of an hour, learning the parts as I went.
As I've been working on mastering lately, I've...

Something more interesting, presumably than the "how my day went" post.

I've started reading The Grail Bird: Hot on the Trail of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker by Tim Gallagher. Gallagher is the gentleman whose lecture we went to a couple of weeks ago, who is one of the re-discoverers of this bird long thought to be extinct.
I've been following this story for a good part...

I think I read about this guy in Smithsonian magazine, I remember the bird anyway. I think it's kinda funny that it's alot harder to bring back an extinct species than it is to get one declared extinct in the first place. As I remember from the article Gallagher caught a ton of crap from saying the bird was still around. I kinda wondered who was behind the resistance? Was it the government or the logging industry or other experts in the field? the smithsonian kinda tiptoed over that part of the story. Anyway on the subject of birds have ou ever heard of a Cayique? I think I spelled that right. My roomate has one, it is a little tiny orange and green parrot type of bird. Sometimes it's the friendliest little critter you ever met and then it'll bite you on the nose and flutter off screaming but overall I kinda like the little thing.

Today was uneventful.
I got a decent night's sleep last night, which was much needed. I still managed to reset my clock time instead of my alarm time when I went to give myself 15 more minutes to sleep. So I woke up a while later, not terribly late but not exactly on time either. Managed to get to work only 20 minutes late, and...

Someone give that writer an Emmy...

Just heard on one of my mom's soap operas that she's watching on tape...
One macho male character says to another:

"No one's gonna get the drop on us without me knowin' about it!"

You bet, guys.

It was nice meeting you lastnight, even though I didn't get to talk to you. biggrin
trevor:
Hey, good meeting you. Like I said, you should come out on friday and play with us. Should be a bit more low key, so there's a chance for actual conversations instead of just shouting back and forth. wink

Yesterday I stayed home from work (at the offer of my mom), and rested. Today I was working for Mom, in trade for her covering my Tuesday shift so I could go to the studio. I got back and she was housecleaning and in a crappy mood. No fun. I know my rooms are pretty trashed, but I still hate getting the "I'm not going...

Oh yes. The "other" small victory of the day:

I did one whole chin-up today... the real kind, no "weight assistance," the all-by-myself, actually pulled myself up the whole way kind.
Yeah, sad thing to have to celebrate, but better to be able to do it, than 6 weeks ago when I got my gym membership and couldn't even do that much. So, I may...
