I went to my first SCA event in years this weekend and had a great time. I caught up with old freinds, and realized how much I had missed it.

my wife and her SCA father Master Gareth(he is a laurel and for those of you who do not know that is the arts and sciences equivalent of a knight)

Their Royal Majesties Maximillian and Lethrenn, Sovereign and Consort of the Laurel Kingdom of Meridies

there were several fighting events and a good time was had by all...

for those who do not know what the SCA is here is a little piece on Gulf Wars and I am looking forward to going next year.

We did the Ren Faire at Casa De Fruta this weekend and had a blast. Some of the costumes were really splendid. I enjoyed the Belles of Bedlam, Moonie and Broom, and "Bold & Stupid men".

I looked up the SCA, and it looks like a lot of fun. I noticed that one of the groups was having an SCA Academy this weekend in Aptos- and we just might go and learn something. My husband adors this stuff. There's a smaller Ren Fair in Fresno on November 10th and 11th - that we were going to check out as well. I'm glad for your post - I had no idea that something like this was out there. smile

We are planning on going to the Exotic Erotic Expo & Ball in San Francisco Halloween weekend - anyone out there going to go too?

Oh by the way - Phoenixgirl - if you really are into reading some of Heinlein's work, try:

Time Enough for Love
The Tunnel in the Sky
Stranger in a Strange Land
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
Citizen of the Galaxy
Have Spacesuit Will Travel
Door into Summer

Why stop at just one? And if you do buy these - go to the used bookstore. there's nothing like the retro covers and old book smell. They just have so much more character....

Happy hunting!
