So I finished my first week of classes....it wasn't too bad. I have a ton of homework but I think I'm going to like all my classes, which hopefully means i'll actually go.
i love my historic preservation of architecture class, makes sense since i interned in chicago doing that exact thing. we looked at the Rookery today and I swear I almost had an orgasm. It's a late 1880's Burnham and Root early skyscraper. The lobby was renovated by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1905 and its absolutely amazing. if you ever get the chance to go in there, do. it's at adams and LaSalle in the loop. god, i get so excited about my buildings. another great building to check out is the reliance building. check out the 8th story windows, you can see that they have a more yellowish tint to them if you stand across the street, and that's because they kept the original windows from the late 19th century on just the 8th floor when they did the restoration. Anyway, I better shut up before I write you all a tour of historic buildings in Chicago. They make me so fucking happy though. People don't understand how much architecture affects our sense of place and personal identity, it's something most people don't even think about. but public space and socialbility are so deeply affected by it. i should know, i wrote a 25 page paper on how this phenomenom was present in imperial russia. hahaha.
my car is back. luckily. and everything was covered by warranty.
we still don't know what's wrong with grandma, she's still in the hospital because they are doing tests on her, but i hear she is in good spirits.
finally, the gash in my arm is FINALLY starting to close up. Catch you all on the flip side.
