SF Gate.com - KUSF sold to classical radio owned by USC
Just heard the news today from Maximum Rock And Roll on Facebook that the University of San Francisco has sold of KUSF's frequency to a classical radio station owned by USC (University of Southern California) for the sum of $3.75 million dollars. The station will only exist in on-line form. For me, it's pretty disappointing. I first discovered KUSF from a Metal fanzine created by (now friend) Ron Quintana who has a Metal radio shows on Sunday mornings from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Ron introduced the likes of METALLICA, MEGADETH, EXODUS, TESTAMENT and many more while those bands were in their infant demo stages of their careers. He also had many of those acts at the station for interviews, guest DJ spots and promoted their gigs. I also discovered other great acts like BLACK FLAG, PAVEMENT and PORTISHEAD during regular programing hours during the weekdays.
I have lots of friends who have DJ slots at the station and I was fortunate to have guest DJ on show of those shows for a couple of hours. It was like a dream come true to play tunes that opened up my ears to some great music. Heck, KUSF believe it or not, was instrumental in U2's early success. Anyways, we all know that good things never last, but KUSF has lasted for 34 years. The process of the sale was terrible. The University never informed the staff and the albums the DJ's owned are now the new station's property. Regular programming will resume Thursday on-line, but who knows in what format?
There is going to be a protest tomorrow.

always and still like U2. Bono always seems to make lyrics that gives it that touch that can relate on a personal involvement.

I heard Michael Urban on Chronicle Live say that the A's will have a better bullpen then the Giants in 2011. He also said they have a better chance of winning their division than the Giants. Not sure I agree with that last part, but I thought it was interesting. They still need some power offense, though. I'd say they're at about where the Giants were in 2009. Maybe a little ahead of that.
