Today at about 11:00, an there was an announcement over the PA at work.
"All Associates to the front of the store. All Associates to the front of the store."
It's an odd page for Wal-Mart. If it were a meeting, they would say "Avalible Associates to 'such and such department' for a meeting". A group of us were heading up front when we saw one of our managers who said:
"The construction guys hit a gas line out back. Get the customers out of the store."
We herded the customers out. A bunch of them were pissed. We weren't really telling them what was going on, since we didn't want people to get trampled.
We employees met across the street in the Sam's Club parking lot. The store did not explode. Twenty minutes later the Fire Marshall told us it was safe to go back inside.
So I was almost blown up today! But the real kicker is that the construction guys told management what had happened, and our managers CALLED THE DISTRICT MANAGER to ask her what to do.
