You know people like this, right?

People who may be demanding acceptance for the unacceptable?

Vengeance will be mine...

The Salon article is actually one of the most interesting from my perspective, because of the whole concept of intimacy as applied to an inanimate object. Intimacy is a great goal of human existence, Heirarchy-Of-Needs, even, and by projecting onto an artificial skeleton, it seems to actually *stunt* the growth.

Yes, it makes them happy, or at least they convince themselves of happiness. But a healthy existence demands suffering. Nothing worth having is ever easy, and the dolls supercede that -- they're an easy way out for those who would just like to exist, and not live. It's pretty pathetic.

I'm sure a lot of it is just good ol' fashioned titilation, and there's ntohing inherently wrong with that. Indeed, since titliation can be pretty unpleasant, taking it out on an expensive doll is vastly preferable to taking it out on an actual girl. It's the "husbands" phenomenon that becomes deeply disturbing. I guess I have to agree with the "darwinian justice" take on it, but the part of me that wants to help people thinks that these guys need to be violently disabused of the notion that these things are people.

I know it's human nature to project humanity on to anything and everything. We don't want to feel alone, we don't want to feel powerless. But part of life is facing up to the fact that we are alone and powerless.

Love is watching someone die.
lazboy:
Dude, I am one of those people!

The nerds, I mean, not the silicone diddlers. wink

And that revenge thing goes a long way to explain why men love Die Hard and women tend more towards an "eh" reaction.

"Yippy-ki-yay mother-fucka!" biggrin
