So I've been running semi-regularly lately like I used to. Only problem is now after I get back my knee really REALLY hurts. LIke sharp shooting pains that make my knee buckle and me almost fall. My dad had bad knees (blew them both out by age 22) and I think he's passed them onto me. Oh well, maybe this thing will...

Dude, DON'T ignore your knees.
A) if you're going to run semi-regularly (which you probably shouldn't with bad knees) you need to have a decent pair of shoes. I know you just got a new pair, but you should probably go to a running accessories store and have them look at the way you walk to suggest some inserts.
B) you should go to the orthopedist and have him check it out. You might have runners knee. My friend got a small knee brace (litterally a 1" thick strap around his knee) and he hasn't had trouble since.
C) ice it.
I just want to make sure you're able to walk for some time to come. I'm sure I'm not as good a nurse as you are, so I'm trying some preventative care here. Take care of your knees - you'll miss them when they're gone.
