I seem to have had a bad allergic reaction. A few days ago I tried biting into a raw cashew fruit, to see if it tasted like the nuts, but apparently the skin of the fruit has a mild poison. Now my face has swelled up, especially my lips, nose and around my eyes. And I've got a terrible rash on my neck and arms.
As it turns out, the skin of the raw cashew contains the same toxic compound as poison ivy. I've had that before, but this is far more horrendous, as it's in my mouth, nose and eyes.
And so, which much regret, I departed from the paradise island yesterday to seek more comfortable accommodations on the mainland – the island had limited electricity, with no fans, and sleeping under a mosquito net in the humid heat with this condition was unbearable – and now I'm in a much more comfortable air-c0n room.
I also went to a pharmacist yesterday, and they gave me two medications – an antihistamine for the reaction and a steroid for the itch – twenty pills for about $1. Already I'm feeling a little better and hopefully in a few days I can get back to living it up in paradise.
