Hey y'all! I've been wanting to start doing the homework blogs, and this one seemed perfect for my first! :)
For as long as I can remember, reading has been one of my favorite ways to kick back and relax- and with the summer time heat there's sure no shortage of doing that. ;)
Although I'm surrounded by sunshine and rainbows in Florida, I tend to prefer books of a darker nature; my bookshelves are packed with serial killer biographies, Stephen King, psychology books, and dark poetry, along with an occasional classic or anthology.
(Among my absolute favorites are: The Long Walk by Richard Bachman, It by Stephen King, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Naked by David Sedaris, and In Cold Blood by Truman Capote.)
There are so many books I could recommend, but today we’ll stick with my summer reading list!
First up, 1984 by George Orwell. Though written in 1949, Orwell was eerily prophetic in his depiction of technology, the media, and the government. Nothing like some apocalyptic reading to make you ever-suspicious of today’s current events. ;)
Then comes my poetry read of the summer, Whiskey, Words, & a Shovel by r.h. Sin. When I found this book, I had been looking for something completely different, but the title caught my eye. I flipped through a few pages, and was immediately hooked to his short, prose style poems. Though many of his poems are few in words, they are rich with meaning and inspiration, and I can’t wait to read more of his work!
Coming of Age at the End of Nature is an essay anthology with many writers, discussing what it means for us to grow up amidst so much environmental detriment. I think it is every single one of our responsibilities to care for the earth we live on, and reading this book shows me that I’m not alone!
Last but not least is Striptastic!: A Celebration of Dope Ass Cunts Who Like Money by Jacqueline Francis! It’s not pictured with my other books because I’m waiting for it to arrive in the mail but I am beyond excited to finally be getting it! I have been an exotic dancer for over three years now, and Francis is a ferocious feminist dancer who makes hilarious comics of her strip club experiences, so yeah- BEYOND EXCITED to read it!!!
Thank you for reading beautiful girls and guys, hope everyone is enjoying their summer!!!
@missy @rambo Thanks for the read :)
