....just got back from an open house put on by one of my student's family. as a veggie, i think they were bummed i didn't partake in the mountain of pork chops, chicken breasts & legs, and steak I was seated directly in front of. i did my part by eating extra desert, thank you very much! when the family doesn't speak a lick of English, ya do your best to be gracious. ...awesome familyand super-suportive community came together to put 'em in a new house. grandma still thrust a bag full of meaty left-overs into my hand as i said goodbye.

i will not miss Johnathan Kozol's appearance in PDX this year. i got his latest book a few days ago, but i'll wait to crack it until i finish the one we're reading as a class...

Kozol may be proud of how subdubed my enthusiasm was during SMART board training this week. ...why only a select few classrooms have those tremendous resources rubs me wrong.... seeing a collegue do giddy-cheerleader-gasps-and handclaps being one of the chosen few 'bout made we wanna vommit. hearing her chastize the latino student impressed by the technology for touching it made me wanna kick her shin and write a big "f**k you" in the middle of it and make it spin until infinity.... my goal: design a lesson within the next two weeks where every student has to touch the fucking SMART board, just to spite her.
