spending the weekend reading some of my favorite authors:
Robert E. Howard and Jack London. i must say, out of all the books i have read i keep coming back to the original Howard Conan stories that were published in early to mid 30's. i've read a couple of the other conan stories by other authors and none can compare to the original, Bjorn Nyberg being the worst of the lot. in Jack London's White Fang i see the same barbaric spirit in the wolf as in Conan. a creature born in the wild brought into a civilized world. although, while White Fang represents the attempt by civilization to crush the wild spirit Conan represents just the opposite: that barbarism will crush civilization for being civilized makes men weak. and i couldn't agree more.
when i was a fighting man, the kettle drums they beat,
the people scattered gold dust before my horse's feet;
but now i am a great king and people hound my track
with poison in my wine cup and daggers at my back
what do i know of cultured ways, the guilt, the craft and the lie?
i, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky.
the subtle tongue, the sophist guile, they fail when the broadswords sing;
rush in and die , dogs! i was a man before i was a king!

rented a couple movies tonight: mean girls, which was much better than i thought it would be. i must say, that lindsay lohan is quite cute. also,i rented i'll sleep when i'm dead a british crime movie with clive owen. i'm curious to see more of his work since i saw king arthur.
also,i notice that i tend to say " i must say" alot in my journals. me thinks i watch too many british shows.
