this mini vacation i had was WAY more packed then I had planned. I planned to chill and veg, did that happen, HELL NO. Not a bad thing though I was kept busy every single day the last 5 days, was hoping to relax tomorrow but that has all changed as I had recieved some bad news. A great neighbor and friend for the last almost 20 years passed away and I will be heading to San Clemente for the service early in the morning. This came as a shocker to everyone seeing as he was the youngest of all the Family Fathers in the neighborhood and in good health seeing as he surfed regularly. Was in his mid to late 40's left behind a wife three sons and i beleive a grandchild. I may see about hitting the water tomorrow after the service with a board he made custom for me about 15 years ago, although only 5'6" in length which is 3" shorter then me I may have to atleast sit in the mist of the waves and and pay one final respect to him.

It was a brain aneurysm not a heart attack so there was no chance to revive him. There is some releif in that, it was quick. Carl Hayward was known thru out the surf community as a great surfer. He surfed proffesionally and then went on to shape boards for several companies. Over 8000 boards shaped and marked with his name. I also learned he helped pioneer some of the shapes you see today. As spoken by his coworkers from Hurley, he was a true Southside Legend
