Let me preface this by describing to you the back of my car... I have the following bumper stickers (these first three don't count for the story... Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Bluejackets, Germany) "Dissent is the Highest Form of Patriotism", "Support our Troops - Impeach our President", "Truth is the First Casualty of War", "Flag Shmag! I Heart the Constitution", "These Colors Dont' Run... The World", "Dissent Was Not Unpatriotic in 1776", and a Ben Franklin Quote ("Any society that would give up a little liberty for a little security deserves neither and will lose both.") Yeah I know it's alot...

Anyways... I came into work and I was sitting there eating my breakfast at the delivery desk. Mark (a Bush supporter) comes walking in and says to me "Hey KP, I just found a Free Willy bumper sticker you can add to your car". I brushed it off because he always makes weird comments to me about random shit. But then as he was walking by to go up to the front and get coffee he uttered slightly under his breath "Tree-Huggin Freak". Now maybe I'm unfamiliar with the term, but can somebody tell me which sticker spells "Tree-Huggin Freak"?? Does it make me a Tree Hugger that I care about the Constitution, unlike our stupid ass snarky president? Does it make me a Tree Hugger that I want to end this war because MY friends are over there fighting and bleeding and sweating for this ass hole? Is it because I don't want my country to turn into a Fascist Empire? That really pissed me off because we'd had debates before about politics and he always just spouts Bush talking points and quotes Bill O'Reilly (he's a cool guy otherwise). I just don't understand what is so wrong about wanting our leaders to follow the Constitution like they're supposed to. Listen to the people like they're supposed to. They WORK FOR us, they don't LEAD us! They don't "decide" for us, they don't tell us what to do, WE tell THEM what WE want them to do. "We the people..." remember that? Not "I the President..." We have the power to keep them in check. In fact Ben Franklin said "It is the duty of every citizen to question authority". Am I crazy?!

After the Constitutional Convention a woman walked up to Ben Franklin and said "What kind of government did you give us" and he responded with "A Republic... if you can keep it". I want to keep it... don't you?
