Irish mob movies have a special place in my heart. It's the mick in me I suppose. Or maybe it's the whiskey. Even as a teenager I always romanticized my Irish heritage. To the point of buying and listening to the fuckin' House of Pain cd. If that aint dedication baby, I don't know what is. Found myself watching STATE OF GRACE today. Y'know good ole Gary Oldman as a fuckin' boozin' Irish bloodhound. Sean Penn as the conflicted old Hell's Kitchenite returning back to the hood for a little of the undercover action. I don't think this movie is a particularly "classic" film, but it gets my Irish blood a-pumpin'. Figured I'd share that with you all.

Got all kinds of crunk on Saturday night. Completely blotto on cheap vodka and Robitussin. As much as yammer on and on about that stuff, I haven't used it in like three to four years. Good grief. What a wild night. I finally went to bed at two in the afternoon. Got up at 5:30 pm to start my day. Now that's some retarded-ass rockstar shit there. Can't say that I entirely recommend it. Can't say I entirely discourage it, either. I believe the hosts of the shindig were cool with it until I found the grand piano and started pounding away like Cecil Taylor at a demolition derby. Hell, a growing boy needs him some ivories to beat the snot out of. ROAR!!!!

Listening to Mickey Newbury. Old school songwriter from Nashville. Wrote "Weeping Annaleah" with Townes Van Zandt for Tom Jones to perform. I believe that's his biggest thing. Definetley some solid ass folky/singer songwriter material. Very much for fans of Townes Van Zandt. He's a little more like a Glen Campbell as opposed to Townes more "solitary man in a dark room" vibe. Another Nick Cave related purchase. He did the "Weeping Annaleah" song on the KICKING AGAINST THE PRICKS lp. Made alot of music purchases based on tunes Nick Cave covered on that album. Glen Campbell's BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX. Gene Pitney's SOMETHING'S GOTTEN HOLD OF MY HEART. I otherwise wouldn't have picked up those titles by those artists. Great fun for the whole family. I'll stop being a complete geek now.

What are you guys up to these days?

SOUNDTRACK OF THE DAY
Nick Cave "The Lyre Of Orpheus"

Yes, I have his new album already!!! Illegal, BABY!!! The Abbatoir Blues disk is not his strongest but the LYRE disk is a damn fine piece of music. Track two is called BREATHLESS. I think it's the only song recorded by Nick Cave that reminds me of a Donovan composition. Very scary. Very fucking good. I recommend getting ahold of your local computer whiz and downloading that sucker. Or you could wait till the middle of October. If he tours, I shall be there!!! Detroit and Cleveland, bitches!!! A true nerd!!!

HAVE A SPLENDID WEEK, KIDS!!!
