Yes, we did try the GHOST FOLK I talked about in the last post. It was utterly fantastic. Now I'm glad I didn't send you people copies of shit yet because I want to include this eleven minute gem. Here's how I describe this fucking downhome trainwreck:
Howlin' Wolf, Captain Beefheart, Jandek, Flo & Eddie, The Coach From The Motion Picture MAJOR LEAGUE all arm themselves and take over the Smithsonian Folkways and turn into Lycons and hunt rabbit. Plus, the CIA dumps LSD into the Smithsonian's water supply so the newly formed lycon beasts are loaded for bear and bellowing for flesh.
Sure that's a little grandiose but it's how I wanna swing it at this point and time. This is the kinda thing you would play for your grandparents...but not in a bad way. It's the only time you can put on a KAROLI track and say "No, gramma, they're not sniffing glue...it's regional folk music"
It's a shame because the practice got off to a bad start. Things weren't clicking and I ended up running birds chirping through my amp. When I get bored or run out of interesting ideas, I run some kind of CD through my effects and amplifier. Friday night I used some wolves and people screaming. Tonight I used birds chirping. Plus, two people who haven't played with us before decided to stop on by. One of 'em was a Real Deal Viola player!!! Shit, I've been talking about getting some viola or cello in the mix for a few months now. They ended up leaving before we recorded the GHOST FOLK track.....
THE ONLY THING MISSING FROM THAT TRACK IS A FUCKING FUNERAL STYLE VIOLA FROM BEYOND THE DEPTHS OF HELL!!!!
I hope she will come back and lay down a track or two.
